VIA con Dios.

I tried not to. I really did. I did everything I could to avoid it, but I can’t do it any longer. I’m giving up. I’m upgrading my computer. The parts have been ordered, and I’m just waiting for them to arrive.
I’ve had problems with this rig since I got it several years ago. It has never really worked “right”, but lately it’s only gotten worse. It’s gotten to the point of being almost unusable. It’s won and I’ve been beaten. Frequent random freezes are what finally made me throw in the towel. I’m not talking about lock ups every couple of hours, I could deal with that. I’m talking about complete and total lock up five to ten minutes after startup, if I’m lucky. It’s often quite a bit less than that.
After all the stuff I’ve read on the net trying to fix it, I believe I got a flakey VIA chip set. I know the VIA chip set is why I have an Nvida 6600 AGP card collecting dust. They just will not work together. Will I be able to use it with my new mobo? Nope. It has no AGP slot. Which is fine with me. AGP is giving way to PCIE, and my new board does have PCIE. Will I be using a PCIE graphics card? Not yet. For now I’ll use the integrated Nvidia 6100 graphics on the mobo. It’s still better than the Geforce 2 card I have to use now. I do have room to upgrade down the line, even though I didn’t get a high end mobo.
It seems to be cooperating at the moment. I think it wants to say goodbye…
