Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood.

I’m not sure if there’s been a better bit of casting in the Harry Potter movies since Robbie Coltrane or Daniel Radcliffe. Evanna Lynch is perfect for this part. Granted I haven’t seen the movie yet, but the small glimpses I got from the A&E special were enough. Evanna is Luna.

From the very short clips I saw, she brings a very dreamy, almost unearthly, quality to the role. A large part of this is done with her voice. She’s very soft spoken, with a beautiful Irish accent. As Luna she gives the impression that she isn’t living completely in our world. She seems to see more of the universe around her. Very much like Dumbledore, who Evanna thinks would be a good match for Luna.
That’s one more thing in her favor, she’s a fan of Harry Potter. That seems to be a little bit unusual in the cast. I haven’t seen many interviews where the kids weren’t asked if they were fans of the books, and I don’t recall any of them ever saying anything but no. I’m very happy to hear that she has not only read the books, but has read them multiple times. She’s a fan, that can only help her.
I was eager to see the movie before, but now the waiting is even worse. I can’t wait to see Luna on the big screen. Especially now that I believe she will be portrayed so well.
