Seeing Martha Jones through Rose colored glasses.

We meet again Dr. Jones.
Well I’ve seen a couple episodes of series 3 Doctor Who. I have to say, I’m not impressed with Dr. Martha Jones. I just don’t understand why she’s on there. Sure, she handles the unexpected pretty well. Is that enough? Shouldn’t she have something else going for her?
I could be jumping to conclusions. She could develop over the season. For instance Barty Crouch Jr, as I like to call David Tennant’s Doctor, could use his sonic screwdriver to give her a personality transplant.
Apples and oranges. Boring oranges.
I know what the problem is, I’m comparing her to Rose. Who wouldn’t? The Doctor himself seems to be making the comparison. Billie Piper was wonderful as Rose. The character was good enough to hold her own with the Doctor, even when he was played by Christopher Eccleston, my favorite Doctor.
The Doctor. There are many like him, but this one is mine.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t too happy about the casting of David Tennant. Of course, Christopher Eccleston leaving probably had something to do with that. We all have our favorite Doctors and he was mine. The loss of Billie Piper in the cast casts a pall over this season. David Tennant has grown on me some as our Gallifreyan friend. Maybe Freema Agyeman will too?
Two down
to go.
So far The Doctor has had some great scenes. How can you not love an action packed chase scene in the Tardis? We actually get to see it fly. That was awesome. In the second episode I loved the way he kept quoting Shakespeare to Shakespeare. As a Harry Potter fan, I loved the references, especially coming from Barty Crouch Jr.
If the show remains as good this season as it has been for the first couple of episodes, I’ll be happy. If it doesn’t? Well, I’ll still watch it.
Either way, I’m well and truly hooked. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season turns out. My girlfriend managed to turn me into a Whovian.

[...] in. If that means I get to watch the shows I love I’d be happy to do it. I could watch Doctor Who on the BBC and during the commercials find out that Amazon UK has the new Terry Pratchett book for [...]
Since we’re behind on our Dr Who episodes, we just got through watching “Human Nature.” I thought it was extremely well done. Like you, Christopher Eccelston was my favorite Doctor. I think Martha Jones is okay, but she’s marginalized. She’s like an extra appendage. I think the actress (Freema Agymen) does as well as she could be expected to do, given the nature of her character in the stories. But I miss Rose and Billie Piper as well.
David Tennant has either grown on me, or he grows into the role as time goes on…I’m not sure which. He’s smoother in his role as the 10th Doctor, IMO, than Christopher Eccleston. I do miss Christopher Eccleston’s more over the top briliant insanity as the 9th Doctor. I can see why he left, though. He would surely have run the danger of being typecast, as his Doctor was a nonpareil.
I know that Martha Jones is replaced…and I have looked at some youtubes of her stuff. We are resolutely continuing in order, though. So I won’t have much to say about her until later. I wonder who the 11th Doctor will be when David Tennant leaves after 2010?
