Just taking a couple of minutes to let you know a couple things. There may be a possibility of audio files being posted sometime after Dragon Con. I did find a digital recorder that is supposed to record for a good long time, and has a usb connection. I can’t make any promises on quality though. We’ll see how it turns out.
If it sounds ok, then I may end up posting clips of some panels. If I’m really lucky, maybe even entire discussions. If it’s not good enough to post, I’ll at least have a recording to refer to when typing up my reports.
With Dragon Con coming this weekend there are things I need to get done. I’m afraid that posting on FanaticSpace will be more sporadic than usual. What does that mean? Basically that unless something happens and I just have to write about it, there aren’t likely to be any posts.
I might be able to do a few of short ones from Dragon Con. Maybe give you a peek at what’s going on, and what’s coming up on the blog. I’m hoping that my time at the con will give me plenty of material for the blog. It is a site about fandom after all.
I’ll be trying to take lots of pictures. I’m also looking into getting a tape recorder for the panels. If I can get one that will let me transfer to the computer I’ll see if I can post a few clips from the panels I attend. Even if I can’t find one with computer connections built in, I’ll see what I can do.
If by some bizarre twist of fate you see me at the con, come by and let me know you’ve read the blog. I might buy you a drink take your photo for the blog.
The review isn’t great either. Well, the blog review itself is fine, my results were bad. It turns out that the site has more problems than I was aware of.
RT Cunningham at Untwisted Vortex had this to say about the FanaticSpace blog…
…as I viewed this blog with my widescreen display in Firefox, I noticed the sidebar was below the content. Thinking that it might be a Firefox display issue, I fired up Internet Explorer to take a look. Same thing. I then reduced my window to 1024×768 in Internet Explorer and everything lined up right. I did the same thing with Firefox and it still didn’t line up on the left like it should. This theme needs some work.
Ouch. That’s pretty bad. I don’t have access to a widescreen monitor, so I had no idea this was happening. It’s tough to hear something like that when you’ve worked so hard, but I appreciate honesty. Looks like I’m going to have to find a different blog template. Yes, I’ll probably make alterations to that one too. I just hope I can do a better job this time. I’ll try not to tear it up like I did the last one.
Some problems I was aware of, like the forums, and the sporadic posting. I just need to admit the forums are dead and take ‘em down. Maybe they’ll be back if the site grows. The posting is something I’ve been trying to work on. I’ve done a bit of backsliding lately though. He’s right though, I need to pick up the pace a bit and post regularly.
I’d like to thank Mr. Cunningham for the review. It’s helped me realize that the blog has more problems than I thought. I have a lot of work to do.
Edited to Add:
If you know of a free blog theme similar in layout to what I’ve had here, but not broken, please let me know. Shoot, let me know if there is a free theme that you think would be good for the site. I’d appreciate any help.
Dragon Con. It’s almost here again. I’m getting excited. I can’t wait to see what happens this year. The panels, the costumes, the parade and the fun. It’s really something else.
I thought I’d search for “Dragon Con” on Youtube so I can share a little bit of what it’s like. I got more hits than I expected. I found a great video that sort of gives you an idea, though not entirely. You’d have to be there to really get it.
I don’t know if it’s from the official DVD that they sell at Dragon Con. Yeah, they sell DVDs of Dragon Con at Dragon Con. They’ve been doin’ that the last few years I believe. Probably for the folks who aren’t sober enough to make any home movies of their own.
Anyway, official or not here’s a short look at last year.
I’d recommend checking Youtube if you want to see more videos of Dragon Con. There’s quite a few there.
Coca Cola has set up a pretty interesting site to promote Coke zero. The “Life as it should be” campaign consists of some black and white videos. Not only that but you get to screw around with ‘em. It’ll give you a line, then you type in your response. Using text to speech you’ll hear your typed dialog spoken. When you have it set just right you can save it and share it with friends.
Of course you’ll be sharing it with more than your friends. Your videos will compete for ratings on the site. This will attract a lot of weirdos, like me.
I’ve tried it a few times. With a little imagination it can be pretty amusing. of course, this is the sort of thing I do anyway. I’m always filling in dialog when watching TV. That usually results in my g/f smacking me and telling me to shut up, so this is a bit safer.
You could do a Coke Zero ad I suppose. Just type in something like “Real taste, zero sugar” or something. What fun would that be? Probably not as much as some of the videos on there. There are a few good ones. I hope more people check it out, because if enough creative types make videos there should be some great ones soon.
Any large site you visit that allows commenting is bound to have a thread or two that looks like this. The one that it reminded me of the most was PVP, the webcomic by Scott Kurtz. Quite a few of the comment sections on his site are fairly similar. I’d like to imagine this is what meetings are like over at Mr. Kurtz’s office.
Yeah, I know it’s not a Youtube video, but that’s the category I’m using for now.
This is a great webcomic. In fact I’d say SP is a great example of what a webcomic can be. There’s no way you’d see this in a newspaper, but it’s perfect for the internet. The humor can be a bit mean spirited and sometimes it’s downright cruel. Doesn’t matter though, it’s still funny.
If you’re offended by crude humor, cruelty or foul language. Do not read this comic. If you read it anyway, I warned you.
Well, the Naruto Hundo is over. It was great. Sure I’d seen most of ‘em before, but that’s not what a TV marathon is about. It’s about pushing your TV watching endurance and watching a show you love.
Whatever happened to the TV marathon? This is the first one I’ve seen in a while. they used to be on the weekends and holidays more often. I remember when a local station did a Star Trek marathon every year. Every episode of Star Trek: TOS all in a row. It was awesome.
Now the closest thing to a true TV marathon we can look forward to is A Christmas StoryFuturama hard to find. I’m glad Cartoon Network ran this one. I have a better appreciation of the show now. Check AnimeFansOnline.com later for more of my thoughts on the Naruto Hundo. The post should go up in a few hours.
Man, time is flying by. I still have tons of stuff to get done, like my Space Ghost stuff. I still need to write up a couple of blog posts to go up automatically. Just in case I can’t write up anything while I’m there. Yep, lot of stuff to get done. I’m excited that it’s almost here though.
Things are being switched around in the hotels. Since the Marriott is undergoing construction the dealers room has been moved to the Hilton. That sucks for me because I’m staying in the Hyatt. That’s a long walk. It’s made even longer since they’re closing the street between the Hyatt and Marriott to foot traffic at “peak hours”. So I won’t be hitting the dealers room nearly as much this year. That could be a good thing, maybe I won’t spend as much money.
Fewer trips to the dealer’s room should free up some time for me to get more pictures. I need to get a few shots of cosplayers for Anime Fans Online. I also need to see if there are any good anime events scheduled. I know there’s an AMV contest, but I’m not sure how I’d write up a post about that. I just hope they set up a site with the winners I can link to.
Looks like there are some great guest this year too. Here a few people that are supposed to be there.
A few of the scheduled guests.
Just a few of the guests I’m looking forward to seeing.
Jamie Bamber & Richard Hatch Wooo! Both Apollos!
James Marsters
James & Oliver Phelps Can’t wait to hear what the twins think of Deathly Hallows.
Matthew Lewis Ditto for Neville.
Claudia Black
Gil Gerard & Erin Gray
Jason Hawes & Grant Wilson
You can never tell when someone will have to cancel, like these folks did.
Cancellations.
Sean Astin
Mary Jo Putney
Jeff Austin
Lance Henriksen
Stolen Babies
Virginia Hey
Teresa Patterson
Richard Epcar
Jan Osburg
Crab Scrambly
Katee Sackhoff
Too bad Starbuck won’t be there. That means both Apollos will be there, and both Starbucks won’t.
Painkiller Jane has been cancelled. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did. That show was horrible. The Sci Fi Channel finally makes a cancellation that makes sense. I can only hope there are more like this on the way. I’m lookin’ at you Stargate: Atlantis.
