Horrible Gets High Marks

Neil Patrick HarrisI’ve seen all three Acts of Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. I was away on vacation this past week, so it was kinda bad timing, but I worked it out. As for Dr. Horrible, I loved it. I totally, totally loved it. And I don’t think it’s just cause of Joss Whedon. I mean, I think it’s good because of Joss, but I think I loved it cause it was just so good.

The ending wasn’t what I expected, but I’m not gonna give it away, cause you still have a couple of hours to go see it for free at www.drhorrible.com, (or use the links at www.doctorhorrible.net, if the other site is down). If you don’t get the chance to see it for free, then go download the whole thing at iTunes for $3.99. You will enjoy it, I promise. Somehow, as I started watching, I was envisioning more and more episodes of the same sort of thing, the evil Dr. Horrible, plotting to join the Evil League of Evil, thwarted at every turn by his arch nemesis, Captain Hammer, and always pining for his dream girl, Penny. I guess that’s not gonna happen, but still, I’ll take more, no matter what does happen. I’ve also got to say that I’m really gaining an appreciation for Neil Patrick Harris as an actor.

I’ve been making other people watch it and so far everyone has loved it, even non-Joss fans. At first, my husband refused to watch it. He kept saying, “its a musical!” as though it was poisonous or something. But last night as we crossed the campus (we were at a church camp week at a college campus in Rochester) at around 2 am (going to hang with our buddies and possibly cause some trouble on the last night) and I caught him humming a bit from one of the songs. He picked that up just from hearing me play it a couple (or a dozen) times.

He finally sat through the whole thing with me tonight, and even he had to admit that it was good. Better than he thought, even with the evil singing.

Oops, sorry about the wrong url. I just get excited and forget what I’m doing!

I’m a big fan of musicals, so I say bring on the songs! I actually never thought it might be a remake of something Joss has already done, but I knew there would be, as there was, much homage to stuff in the past. Whedonites love that, all the inside jokes.
