No More DoFollow Comments

I’m getting way too many crap comments from people that obviously just want a followed link.  I’m not putting up with that any more.

I’ve decided to deactivate the DoFollow plugin I’ve been using.  Spam is getting out of hand and I believe the DoFollow policy has something to do with it.  I’ve seen FanaticSpace listed in posts that suggest spamming for S.E.O. purposes.

That is not why I installed that plugin and removed NoFollow. I hate returning the comments to NoFollow, because I want to encourage participation.  Participation or no, I’d hate to have a spammy site even more.

I will be looking into other changes to FanaticSpace as well.  I want this site to be the best it possibly can.  I want to make it a place that people want to visit.  Getting tough on spam is the first step.

This decision is sad for readers like us, who just wanted to leave their warm appreciation for the blog you shared. I have some problems with spammers in some of my websites but I have readers who visit regularly so… I just have to set aside some time on deleting spammers. Oh, and by the way, I just read your review about Twilight–and it was hilarious. When I tried reading it, I stopped at the first few chapters. I didn’t know that the reason was the main characters’ weaknesses until I read the review. Oops, sorry. This comment should be on the Twilight post. Just wanna thank you for letting me share my thoughts.

I agree, it is sad. I do have a few things in mind to try to make up for it. I’m planning on trying to do more posts based on comments, much like the post about Battlestar Galactica Theories that was based on a comment. Of course I’ll start adding links to commentators sites if they’re appropriate.

I’m hoping that things like this will not only reward people for participating, but also encourage well thought out comments that add to the discussion.

    About Twilight

Thanks for the kind words about the review. I was expecting more venom in the comment section of the post due to the zeal of a lot of Twilight fans, and my lack of effusive enthusiasm.

You’re welcome to share your thoughts here. I’m hoping that this decision will allow more people to share their thoughts instead of getting deleted because of a suspicious link.
