The Kiss

Rising Independent Filmmakers Launch Star Wars Homage with The First Hope & Kickstarter

The Kiss

Award winning filmmaker Jeremy David White has teamed with screenwriter Austin Reynolds to explore young protagonist, “Johnny’s”,  fascination with the original Star Wars trilogy in The First Hope.

Johnny’s tween rite of passage begins unexpectedly while watching The Empire Strikes Back.   The infamous kiss between Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia plays on the VCR for the umpteenth time. This time, however, it’s different.  Johnny springboards from the screen kiss to a crush in a galaxy much closer to home.  Yet, its origins will always lie affectionately in the Star Wars universe.

This powerhouse crew for The First Hope already has a truckload of awards between them, and this project is a self admitted semi-autobiographical labor of love.

Director Jeremy David White’s fannish roots extend back to childhood with his first favorite movie, E.T.

His latest project, The Kids Don’t Like It, has been selected for the 2012 Dallas International Film Festival.

White’s long time collaborator, writer Austin Reynolds, described his introduction to the fascinating believability of special FX when he saw “Jaws” for the first time.

He’s also an aficionado of funnyordie.com. His latest timely upload is entitled “E-Breakup”.

In addition to White and Reynolds, The First Hope is produced by Kyle Laursen and Eric F. Martin.  Laursen gives  convincing testimony concerning his sister’s birthright  after watching George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead at an apparently  impressionable age.

His recent horror film Tread Darkly, was selected for inclusion in multiple film festivals

Eric F. Martin  cut his genre teeth on Ghostbusters II, and appreciated the well known “Vigo” scene while cowering on the floor of the theater.

Martin and Laursen recently collaborated on the independent feature, Acting Like Adults.

Cinematography is to be directed by the gifted Phil Klucsarits, yet another award winning member of this stellar team.  On the heels of his film short collaboration with Spain’s David Martin Porras , Phil’s latest cinema outing is Stealing Summers (starring James Jagger).

Lucasfilm has given its permission to use scenes from Star Wars — Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in The First Hope.  Without that clearance, this short film would be a non-starter.  Indeed it appears they are all ready to go…

But, WAIT! There’s only one thing holding The First Hope back from production. They need funding. This short film has a Kickstarter goal of a minimum of $15k.
The 501st Legion has expressed their support by offering a premium at the $750 Stormtrooper level with a generous offer to appear in costume at a private screening of The First Hope in the Los Angeles area!

Moving into the final seven days before The First Hope Kickstarter project expires, they have reached nearly 90% of their goal.  Kickstarter is an all or nothing deal. The First Hope crew will either get the entire $15k or nothing. You can pledge your fannish investment today for as little as $5.00. Beginning at the Midi-chlorian $10 level, you can have your name written on a featured key film prop.  Premium gifts are cumulative, so yes, you can have a prop named after you AND a DVD for screening!  Become a part of this Pro-fan project!  Pledging ends on April 3rd at 2:00 AM EDT.  Here’s hoping they make it.

Meanwhile, I’m going to use the thin thread of Luke and Leia’s kiss to enjoy some vintage Brobdignagian Bards singing the Jedi Drinking Song.
