Maybe I’ll play around with the new release and give you my thoughts in a later post.

You may, or may not, have noticed that I haven’t posted in a few days. I have a reason this time. I was making a logo for someone, I do offer free graphics after all. I really got into this one. Partially because of an update to ArtRage. They’ve added some great stuff to an already great program.
ArtRage is a great program to begin with. Is the ArtRage team satisfied with that? Heck no, the developers keep improving it and making it better. Not only that, but they listen to the people that use ArtRage.
Stencils and friskets were a popular request on the program’s forums. I even made a suggestion or two about it myself. It makes sense to have stencils in a program like this. It’s meant to mimic real world art supplies. Artists use these things a lot.
Think about it. If you’re drawing and you need a straight edge, you use something with a straight edge as a guide. Now you can do the same thing in ArtRage. Of course, they’ve added more than just straight edges. Take a look at some of this stuff.
There are a decent number of stencils included in the update. More than it looks like, because you can invert any of the stencils to have the opposite effect. Not only that, but you can make your own and add them to the program, just like the paper textures.
They haven’t limited themselves to edges either. They’ve also added gradients, textures and objects as well. Take a look at a sphere in ArtRage.
There is a lot you can do with the stuff they’ve added. I believe they’ve really made some great improvements in the program. ArtRage is well on it’s way to being the best natural media graphics program there is.
Now if only we could turn off or adjust the lighting, it’d be perfect. I just got an e-mail from Ambient Design. You can turn the light off now, with the F5 key. So now it’s perfect.
Check out the ArtRage site for a free trial download. Even the full version is only $25. That’s a good deal for a great program.

To celebrate the 12th anniversary of Command and Conquer, EA has made the original C&C free to download. That’s right free. At no cost. No money down and nothing to pay later.
If you run XP you’ll need to burn it to a CD. If you can’t burn a CD, find a friend who can. Command & Conquer is worth it.
Command & Conquer Intro Movie
Granted, it’s not going to be as pretty as Command & Conquer 3. It is an older game. Think about it though, this game was good enough to spawn one of the greatest PC game franchises ever. Command & Conquer is the standard in real-time strategy. Now you can play the game that started it all for free.
I’m going to download it now.

I’ve decided to share the memorial band. I made it after reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I still don’t want to get too spoilerish, but it’s safe for people to assume there would be a battle at Hogwarts. After all it was the first place both Harry and Tom Riddle felt at home. it’s important to both of them.
The band is made for a light background. it looks jagged on a dark background.
Here’s the graphic.
Here’s the code I use with it. Yeah, it’s not perfect. You might need to tweak it for your site.
background-image: url(http://www.yoursite.com/graphic.url) ;
border: none none none none ;
HTML to include in your page.
Just an empty Div with id=”hanger”.

I would too, and thanks to JohnCow.com I can! All I need to do is include a couple of links like this one “web hosting“, and I could be wasting my time playing video games instead of blogging. I sure hope I win a Playstation3 from that mad cow .
If you have a blog you could win something cool. Just sell a little bit of your soul and write a blog post like this one. I’m hoping for a PS3, but there are other prizes offered. Check it out.

Thanks to a comment on the JohnCow.com blog I’ve decided to offer free graphics. Here’s a rundown of what happened.
In a post at JohnCow the term “stupid cow” was used. That progressed to talk of an award. That led to mention of a button, and that’s where I came in. I whipped up something and posted a link in the comments. Not quite what they were thinking of, so I did another one. Now there’s a full fledged contest going on to make some graphics for the “Stupid Cow Award”.

Good work 2x. You’ll get other sites wanting your creative genius pretty soon too!
That got me thinking. I like doing graphics, it’s fun. I don’t mind doin’ them for other people. I’ve done quite a few for boards and forums. (I mod the graphics forum for Knockturn Alley. plugplugplug) So why not offer ‘em to people that might see this blog?
So, if you need/want some graphics for forums, web sites, or whatever just let me know. I’ll see what I can do. Since it’s free it’s not like you’ll lose anything. Right? Free is good. If it’s a big project I might ask for attribution. A simple link and a mention that I did ‘em, that’s all. Unless it’s something horrid, then I might ask you not to link to me.
How to request graphics.
If you want something specific, let me know. You can use the contact form to make any requests. I’ll work with you and make any changes you want. If you have pictures you want included, I can do that as long as…
